Wynonna Earp Only on Blu-ray

KC and I have been waiting for an announcement of Wynonna Earp coming to home video. We wanted to see what kind of show they made from old friend Beau Smith‘s stories, and we don’t have cable, thus no Syfy channel.

Oddly, though, the only thing that’s been announced so far is a crowd-funded Blu-ray release estimated to be out in September. Co-producer (and comics publisher) IDW Entertainment has put up a campaign running for the next couple of months for “All 13 episodes of Season One, incredible behind-the-scenes content, and interviews with the cast…. No DVD version, Blu-ray format only.”

I suppose this is the next step. Warner Archive has been doing made-on-demand Blu-rays for certain low-audience but fan-favorite shows, where they can make more money on the product. So doing Blu-rays only for those who are willing to pre-pay just makes it more of a sure thing for the producer. Weird that there’s no DVD available — but it could just be that they haven’t announced it. The wording above could mean that there are no DVDs as part of the campaign, not ever.

Here’s the show description:

Wynonna Earp follows Wyatt Earp’s great granddaughter as she battles demons and other creatures. With her unique abilities, a demon-killing gun named Peacemaker, and a posse of dysfunctional allies, she’s the only thing that can bring the paranormal to justice.

Grab a donut, a bottle of whiskey, and hold on to your hats as Wynonna, Waverly, Doc, Dolls, and Officer Haught fight against the dirtiest pack of demons, monsters, and paranormal outlaws Purgatory has to offer.

At the time of this writing, they’re over 90% towards the $50,000 goal. The cheapest level available is $30 (plus shipping) for the basic Blu-ray set. Other levels add a comic, a signed photo, or admission to a San Diego Comic-Con party.

By the way, if you don’t have our channel limitations, the second season of Wynonna Earp begins airing this Friday.
