Dark Horse Loses Buffy the Vampire Slayer License

	With all the media consolidations going on, it’s been a tough year for Dark Horse. A significant portion of their line is licensed publications, and those have been ending. With all the media consolidations going on, it’s been a tough year for Dark Horse. A significant portion of their line is licensed publications, and those have been ending. Star Wars went back to Marvel several years ago, followed by Conan the Barbarian earlier this year. With the acquisition of Fox by Disney, their licenses are moving as well. Boom! has announced new Serenity comics after Dark Horse published them from 2005-2017; Boom!’s Firefly #1 is due in November. (Boom! makes sense as a publishing partner, if Disney doesn’t want to give the license directly to Marvel, since Boom! has significant investment from Fox.) Now comes the news, in a Joss Whedon interview, that after 20 years, Dark Horse will no longer be publishing Buffy the Vampire Slayer comics. The current four-issue miniseries, Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 12: The Reckoning, which ends in September, will be the last from Dark Horse. Dark Horse also gained the Angel comics license from IDW in 2010, to reunite the franchise. There’s no definite word yet on where/when the comics will continue, but informed observers are guessing Boom! will get those as well.
