The Vixen animated series the CW put out online as a tie-in to their live-action superhero block will now be available for purchase. Vixen: The Movie will be released on Digital HD on May 8, with Blu-ray (list price $19.98) and DVD (list price $18.94) versions following on May 23.

The shorts (a total of 12 across two seasons) will have 15 minutes of new content added to make them into a single story. Megalyn Echikunwoke voices the animal-powered superhero, with plenty of well-known friends dropping by, including the voices of Stephen Amell (Green Arrow), Grant Gustin (The Flash), Emily Bett Rickards (Felicity Smoak), Carlos Valdes (Cisco Ramon), Katie Cassidy (Black Canary), Victor Garber (Martin Stein) & Franz Drahmeh (Jax) as Firestorm, and Brandon Routh (The Atom).

The special features are a featurette, “Vixen: Spirit Animal” (probably assembled from the various extra behind-the-scenes clips available), and two Vixen-focused episodes of Justice League Unlimited, “Hunter’s Moon” and “Grudge Match”. They will be available on both Blu-ray and DVD, although the Blu-ray also comes with a digital copy.

The animated film is produced by James Tucker, who also handles the original animated DC universe movies, and directed by Tucker and Curt Geda. The writers are Wendy Mericle, Keto Shimizu, Brian Ford Sullivan, Lauren Certo, Nolan Dunbar, Sarah Tarkoff, and Marc Guggenheim, most of whom work on Arrow, where Vixen first appeared. Here’s the description:

Originally from Africa, Mari McCabe grew up an orphan after her parents were killed by local greed, corruption, and wanton violence. But Mari refuses to succumb to the terrors surrounding her. Inheriting her family’s Tantu Totem, Mari can access the powers of animals — anything from the strength of a gorilla to the speed of a cheetah. As Vixen, she fights valiantly to protect the world from threats like those that claimed her family.
