As always, I had a fabulous time at the 2017 Small Press Expo (SPX) in Bethesda, Maryland. As always, I had a fabulous time at the 2017 Small Press Expo (SPX) in Bethesda, Maryland. It’s my favorite show of the year for the diversity of content and the chance to visit with friends old and new. This year, I even got to be part of two episodes of Heidi MacDonald’s hotel room podcast, along with Brigid Alverson and Deb Aoki (in part one). (Yes, all four of us were in one room. It was fun!) And SPX is a great place to get new comics to read! Here’s my purchase picture: The fun part of rooming with so many other comic readers is checking out their acquisitions. And since I wake up early, I put together a quick review post of some of Brigid’s comics. I also had the honor of moderating a panel with Gene Luen Yang, National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature. So I snapped a selfie! There were plenty of people I enjoyed talking with. Before I forget, I already listed the 2017 Ignatz Award Winners. Let’s end with the saddest booth at the show. I don’t know why, but the guy behind Zombie Tramp, which (if you don’t know) is the kind of book that regularly ships with nudie alternate covers, set up at SPX with this display. No one was ever at his table. Link : SPX 2017 Photo (and Podcast) Gallery | |
