Immortal Guys Solving Crimes

Immortal Guys Solving Crimes I have recently realized that I enjoy a rather specialized television sub-genre: immortal guys and normal women solving crimes. Examples: Lucifer season 2 has just returned, with the prince of hell trying to figure out his feelings for the police detective he works with. In this most recent episode, “Stewardess Interruptus”, the two murder victims are former lovers of Lucifer, a nice device to complicate things. Lucifer season 2 has just returned, with the prince of hell trying to figure out his feelings for the police detective he works with. In this most recent episode, “Stewardess Interruptus”, the two murder victims are former lovers of Lucifer, a nice device to complicate things.

I recently binged the only season of Moonlight, a vampire PI series starring that guy from Hawaii Five-O (Alex O’Loughlin), that girl who fell in love with David Tennant’s Doctor through a fireplace (Sophia Myles), and Veronica Mars‘ boyfriend (Jason Dohring). It’s distracting escapism, a lightweight blend of drama, romance, and angst.

I still miss Forever (DVD set), in which Mr. Fantastic (Ioan Gruffudd) can’t die so he works as a NYC medical examiner. Even though it was basically the same show as …

New Amsterdam, which featured that guy with the unpronounceable name from Game of Thrones (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) as an immortal NYC detective. Both had supporting characters of sons much older than their fathers, and both had interesting views of how the city and culture had changed over the years. (NC-W was cuter, but IG had a British accent, so…) This one only ran 8 episodes, though, and isn’t easily available, so far as I know.

I’m not sure I’m enjoying the newest season of Sleepy Hollow, now that they’ve gotten rid of Abbie. The new supporting characters — a single-mom federal agent, a geeky researcher, and an unsocial tech genius — are flat so far, the bad guy is pointless, and I don’t like how they seem to be circling back to previous plots and threats I’m tired of. (Plus, they cut Crane’s hair.) But I did like the first season a lot.

Janina Gavankar, Jerry MacKinnon, Tom Mison, Rachel Melvin, and Lyndie Greenwood in Sleepy Hollow season 4

So, what other shows with this concept have I missed?
