The forgotten black sheep of the DC comic TV show family is Constantine, because it’s the one (so far) from the modern era that’s gotten cancelled. Thirteen episodes ran on NBC from October 2014 to February 2015. (With a followup guest appearance on Arrow the next year that was quite good.)

It was a strange choice to begin with — the comic Constantine was known for his anti-hero status, for friendly characters getting killed, for pushing boundaries, for bad language and shocking habits. Two of the latter, smoking and bisexuality, were widely discussed as being necessary to keep off-screen. Even without them, the magic, occult setting, and demon-dealing were never going to be an easy sale on a mass network. And that’s ignoring the legacy of the Keanu Reeves-starring movie a decade earlier.

If you kept watching, though, Constantine turned into a decent show, and Matt Ryan’s lead performance was magnetic to watch.

This is precisely the kind of project that Warner Archive was made for, and they have announced that Blu-ray ($39.99) and DVD ($29.99) sets will be available tomorrow, October 4. I’ve preordered mine! A small set of extras is included:
