(My thanks to the publisher for providing the copies.) Geary does a fantastic job laying out what’s known and unknown of these cases. The first is likely better known, about a woman trying to make it in post-War Hollywood who only gained fame as a corpse. The second, set in 1918 Louisiana, is about a serial killer (perhaps) attacking immigrant grocers in grisly fashion.
