Lucifer Season 2 Comes to DVD, Blu-ray in Split Release

Lucifer Season 2 Comes to DVD, Blu-ray in Split Release I know a lot of people giggle at the premise — she’s a cop, he’s the Devil, they solve crimes in LA — but Lucifer, starring Tom Ellis, is one of my favorite guilty pleasures. I know a lot of people giggle at the premise — she’s a cop, he’s the Devil, they solve crimes in LA — but Lucifer, starring Tom Ellis, is one of my favorite guilty pleasures. This past season, season 2, increased the family dynamics by adding in his mother, played by Tricia Helfer, to complicate his relationship with Detective Chloe (Lauren German), his angel brother Amenadiel (DB Woodside), his demon friend Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt), and his therapist Dr. Linda (Rachael Harris).

The 18 episodes making up Lucifer: The Complete Second Season will be available on DVD and Blu-ray on August 22. (As with the first season, the DVD will be available through the standard places, while the Blu-ray is a Warner Archive release.)

The DVD set has a list price of $39.99 and will include the following special features (also included on the Blu-ray):

  • A new featurette, “Reinventing Lucifer in the City of Angels”
  • The 2016 Comic-Con panel
  • Deleted scenes
  • Gag reel

Here are the 18 episode titles:

  1. Everything’s Coming Up Lucifer
  2. Liar, Liar, Slutty Dress on Fire
  3. Sin-Eater
  4. Lady Parts
  5. The Weaponizer
  6. Monster
  7. My Little Monkey
  8. Trip to Stabby Town
  9. Homewrecker
  1. Quid Pro Ho
  2. Stewardess Interruptus
  3. Love Handles
  4. A Good Day to Die
  5. Candy Morningstar
  6. Deceptive Little Parasite
  7. God Johnson
  8. Sympathy for the Goddess
  9. The Good, the Bad and the Crispy

Key developments this season include Dr. Linda finding out Lucifer really is from Hell, Lucifer going back to Hell to save Chloe, meeting Lucifer’s wife, meeting someone who claims to be his father, and one of my favorite bits, Maze taking Chloe’s daughter trick-or-treating.

I found it interesting that the network wanted a full season of 22, but although the additional four episodes were made, there wasn’t any place to schedule them, so they’ll be shown this fall. Executive producer Joe Henderson described them as “four episodes that let us play around a bit. Dig deeper into the character stories, play with format a bit, etc. [They] pick up plots we’ve introduced and bring in new stuff we’ll play with [in] season 3.”

That may mean, on top of the Season 3 full-season 22-episode order, we’ll get a total of 26 shown. Lucifer season 3 will air on Fox on Mondays this fall as a lead-in to the new X-Men show The Gifted.
