It’s been 20 years since Batman & Mr. Freeze: Sub-Zero came out on DVD. It’s a 67-minute tie-in movie to Batman: The Animated Series and has the same voice cast: Kevin Conroy as Batman and Michael Ansara as Mr. Freeze. Other cast members include Loren Lester (Robin/Dick Grayson), Efrem Zimbalist Jr. (Alfred), Robert Costanzo (Detective Harvey Bullock), Robert Hastings (Commissioner Gordon), Marilu Henner (Veronica Vreeland), Mari Devon (Summer Gleeson), and Liane Schirmer (Lt. Renee Montoya), with Mary Kay Bergman as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, George Dzundza as Dr. Gregory Belson, and Dean Jones as Dean Arbagast. To celebrate the 20th anniversary, Warner Archive is releasing a Blu-ray of the movie on March 27. Given the age of the material, the movie will run “in its original 4×3 Fullframe aspect ratio”. Batman faces his coolest case ever when Mr. Freeze returns to Gotham City and kidnaps Batgirl. While unraveling the mystery of Batgirl’s disappearance, Batman and Robin discover that she is part of Mr. Freeze’s frigid plan to save his dying wife — no matter what the cost. With time running out, Batman and Robin must find Gotham’s most cold-blooded villain and prevent him from putting Batgirl “on ice” forever. Special Features include Art of Batman: Music Montage Get the Picture: How to Draw Batman the film’s theatrical trailer and the cartoon series “Mr. Freeze Saga” in chronological order, four episodes entitled “Heart of Ice”, “Deep Freeze”, “Cold Comfort”, and “Meltdown.” Batman & Mr. Freeze: Sub-Zero won an Annie Award for Best Home Video Animation. If you’ll be attending WonderCon later this month, there’s a panel about the movie on Friday, March 23, showing remastered footage and discussing the film.
